Some Illinois Municipalities Are Putting Moratoriums on Marijuana

Local Marijuana

Local municipalities in Illinois can choose to allow or ban recreational marijuana. Residents of Glen Ellyn will be able to decide if they want recreational sales or not come November. There is currently a moratorium in place.

The current moratorium is set to expire on October 26, the Daily Herald reports. Not many suburbs have put bans or moratoriums in place. The question on November ballots will just be a referendum – it’s non-binding.

The trustees in Glen Ellyn will have the final say, but what residents want will be taken into great consideration.

If Glen Ellyn should lift its ban on recreational marijuana sales it can opt to add up to 3% in additional sales tax.
