Illinois’s 7 Recreational Marijuana Growers Get Approval

Recreational Marijuana State

Seven cultivation facilities have been approved to start growing recreational marijuana in Illinois. The first recreational marijuana sales are slated to begin on January 1, 2020.

Existing cultivators were given preference in the licensing process, The Chicago Tribune reported. The approved cultivators will essentially determine what products are available to recreational users since their current product lines are expected to carry over. Expansions of current cultivation facilities are underway.

Some of the approved growers are:

  • Cresco Labs
  • PharmaCann
  • Columbia Care
  • Ascend Illinois

Jeremy Unruh of PharmaCann said, “Now we can really put the pedal down in terms of producing supply in anticipation of the Jan. 1 kickoff.”

Some cultivators, like PharmaCann, were awarded multiple licenses for recreational cultivation.

Spokesman for Cresco Labs, Jason Erkes, said, “We are happy to receive the first round of state approvals as we ramp up our operations to continue to provide residents of Illinois our trusted suite … of tested, consistently-dosed cannabis products.”
