Illinois Becomes the 11th State to Legalize Recreational Marijuana

Illinois Marijuana Law

On June 25, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a new law making Illinois the 11th state to legalize marijuana for recreational use.

The new law will tax and regulate marijuana for adults 21 and older starting January 1, 2020, MPP stated. At that time, adults can purchase and possess marijuana products from licensed dispensaries.

Marijuana possession will be limited to 30 grams. Marijuana-infused products cannot contain more than 500 mg of THC or five grams of cannabis product in concentrated form. Up to five home-grown cannabis plants are allowed for personal use.

Nonresidents can have up to 15 grams.
