News Conference Set for Illinois Marijuana Legalization Announcements

IL MMJ

Illinois lawmakers sponsoring recreational marijuana legalization are joining forces with advocates locally and nationally for a Wednesday news conference when they will announce the upcoming steps for the proposed legislation. A coalition to support the proposal will also be formed.

The news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the James R. Thompson Center Press Room, located on the 15th floor, according to Windy City Media Group. Heather Steans and Kelly Cassidy will offer details in the first hearing of SB 316 and HB 2353. Reverend Alexander Sharp from Clergy for a New Drug Policy Reform (CNDP) and Chris Lindsay from Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) will provide details regarding the Coalition for a Safer Illinois.

Coalition members will include civilians, national/local organization representation, and leaders in the community. The combination of SB 316 and HB 2353 would legalize the adult use of recreational marijuana for adults at least 21 years old.
