Illinois Treasurer Asks Trump Administration for Clarity on Marijuana

Illinois Marihuana

Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs wants the Trump administration to clarify its stance on medical marijuana. The treasurer sent a letter to the White House this week following up on Sean Spicer’s recent remarks. One reason for the letter is the difficulty with dispensaries finding banking solutions to handle their cash flow.

The “significant banking challenges” make it difficult for dispensaries to pay fees and taxes, according to Chicago Tribune.  The Illinois medical marijuana industry is under a pilot program status until 2020. The program will then be re-evaluated and it will be determined whether to continue the program or not.

In the letter it reads: “I request your administration provide substantive clarification and guidance on the receipt and remittance of such funds, whether cash, checks, or electronic payments deposited by state governments and medical cannabis firms in a financial institution.”
