Illinois Pharmacists Want to Distribute Medical Marijuana

Now that medical marijuana is legal in Illinois, although officials are still finalizing the details of the law, pharmacists are hoping to become potential medical marijuana providers.

Pharmacist Joseph Friedman, who wants to open a medical marijuana dispensary, stated, “It makes perfect sense, after all, pharmacists are the drug experts.”

The issue faced by pharmacists is that their federal licenses prohibit them from dispensing marijuana, even if it is for medical purposes.

Friedman, wants medical marijuana to be re-classified from a “Schedule I” substance to a “Schedule II,” which would allow pharmacists to dispense it legally.

With marijuana being legalized for medical and recreational purposes throughout the United States, it’s very possible that marijuana will one day be re-classified. But until then, pharmacists will not be providing marijuana for patients.
