Recreational Marijuana Legal in Nevada as of January 1, 2017

Vegas Cannabis
As of January 1, 2017 recreational marijuana use is legal for adults 21 and older in Nevada. Adults can now legally use marijuana and possess up to one ounce of marijuana on their private property.

Nevada lawmakers have until 2018 to determine the laws for the recreational marijuana industry, but it is expected that they’ll create the laws before then, KTNV reports. Recreational marijuana dispensaries will likely open in early 2018. Till then, there is nowhere to legally purchase recreational marijuana.

“That’s going to create a black market… which somebody has to deal with,” said Nevada Senator Tick Segerblom.

Until recreational dispensaries open, the best way for people to get marijuana legally is to get a medical marijuana card and then purchase marijuana from a medical marijuana dispensary.

Driving while under the influence of marijuana remains illegal. Consuming marijuana in casinos and hotels is illegal.
