Politically Connected IL Investors Getting into Marijuana Industry

Investors in Illinois, some politically connected, are fighting for advantageous positions as they wait for the state’s new medical marijuana law to be implemented.

David Rosen of Chicago was Gov. Pat Quinn’s chief fundraiser in 2010 and also raised money for Hillary Clinton and Al Gore. Rosen has filed paperwork to open a medical marijuana business in Nevada called Waveseer. He’s also registered that business name in Illinois.

Sam Borek was college roommates with the legislator who sponsored the law, Democratic state Rep. Lou Lang of Skokie. Borak has already reserved at least three-dozen marijuana-related business names.

And some of those interested in running marijuana-related businesses have even hired known lobbyists to help, which will make the playing field lopsided.
