Illinois Medical Marijuana Business Applications Due Today

IL Dispensary Marijuana
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and the Department of Agriculture will be accepting applications for medical marijuana dispensaries and cultivation centers until 3pm today.

The Illinois medical marijuana law went into effect January 1, but the first crop of marijuana can’t be planted until permits for cultivation centers are issued later this year. The law prohibits medical marijuana patients from growing their own marijuana.

Commercial cultivation centers will have to pay a 7% privilege tax on medical marijuana sales. Illinois is expected to grant up to 21 permits for cultivation centers and up to 60 permits for dispensaries throughout the state.

The state is charging a non-refundable application fee of $25,000 and a first-year registration fee of $200,000.
